What do you need to use WhatsApp?

To use WhatsApp on your smartphone you need two things: an internet connection and a mobile phone number to register your account.

Most likely your smartphone is just fine to use WhatsApp! But here are a few details:

  • It’s not important what type of phone you have – Samsung, iPhone or any other; WhatsApp will work on any of them. Some of the older smartphones may no longer be supported by WhatsApp, but they are very uncommon nowadays.

Is using WhatsApp expensive?

WhatsApp is completely free to install and to use. However remember that you can be charged for Internet use on your smartphone.

Generally, video calls will be more expensive, voice calls and sending pictures costs less, and sending text messages is very cheap. However many Wi-Fi and mobile Internet packages are cheap and have a large data allowance which will allow you to make many video calls per month!
